Togo

With support from the SIMPI project, IGAD embarked on an inter-REC learning mission to the ECOWAS Commission to engage in a mutual dialogue on free movement, transhumance policies, and migration data. The initiative served as a platform for both regional organizations to exchange experiences, address challenges, and share best practices in facilitating cross-border mobility. The mission enabled IGAD to gain insights into ECOWASs approach while also offering perspectives from its own regional context.

Appui a la lutte contre la traite des tes humains (ALTP) / Supporting the fight against human trafficking

The ALTP project supports the authorities and civil society in 6 Gulf of Guinea countries in various aspects of the fight against human trafficking: institutional and operational capacity building, law enforcement, victim protection and regional cooperation and with a focus on migration.

The Resilient Communities Programme (CoRe) is a four-year initiative gathering civil society organizations (CSOs) from 15 countries across the globe. The main objectives are to promote a just ecological transition, support local projects, and strengthen community resilience. The targeted population includes vulnerable communities affected by socio-environmental crises.

The Skills Initiative for Africa (SIFA) is an initiative of the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Union Development Agency (AUDANEPAD) supported by the German Government and the European Union. SIFA promotes the occupational prospects of young Africans through the support of innovative skills development programmes and close cooperation with the private sector as an integral key stakeholder in the creation of jobs. The initiative consists of two components, a Finance Facility and a Technical Component.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the African Union Commission (AUC have signed an agreement for $3.9 million in grant financing to strengthen investment, human capital and philanthropic engagement from the diaspora in eight African countries.  

In collaboration with the African diaspora in Europe, WIDU applies an innovative approach that combines funding and coaching to strengthen new and existing small businesses in Africa, which then leads to the creation of new jobs.

WIDU.africa works in close collaboration with different African diaspora organisations and associations based in Europe. This partnership is vital for the implementation of WIDU.africa and the success of the project as they create a bridge between the WIDU.africa project and its most important actors ñ the diaspora members.

Haho commits to strengthening the integration and social cohesion of migrant, displaced, and marginalized communities within the city. Haho attracts many ethnic groups from surrounding rural areas, which sometimes leads to social tension and violence within the city. To address these tensions, Haho’s project activities are grouped into two components.

The West Africa Network for the protection of children focuses on ensuring a continuum of services are delivered across the region within and eight-step procedure, ranging from the identification of a vulnerable child and provision of emergency care to their successful social re-integreation.

The objectives of the project is to support the government in its efforts to mobilize Togolese diaspora for the development of Togo and is implemented by the NGO MARS.  MARS organized information and awareness-raising workshops with state actors of development and civil society actors, to adhere to the project. MARS implemented a database of Togolese living in Germany, France, Benin and Ghana, and finance and accompanied five projects of migrants.

Les mouvements migratoires concernant le Togo sont notables aussi bien au niveau interne que vers l’extérieur. Ces dernières années, les destinations se sont diversifiées. Mais les Togolais vont de préférence vers les pays africains (80 %) : le Ghana (415 049), le Nigéria (100 428), la Côte d’Ivoire (55 680), le Bénin (45 498) et le Burkina Faso (23 768). Au regard des statistiques, les pays de l’OCDE sont moins souvent les destinations privilégiées des migrants togolais : l’Allemagne (10 219), la France (9 371), l’Italie (4 422) et la Belgique (2 708).
