“Strengthening Partnerships: Human Mobility for Sustainable Development”

The Government of Turkey, in her capacity as Chair of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) 2014-2015), has the honor to invite you – States that are Members and Observers of the United Nations, and other GFMD Observers – to the 8th GFMD Summit Meeting to be held on 14-16 October 2015 in Istanbul.
Under the overarching theme, “Strengthening Partnerships: Human Mobility for Sustainable Development,” the 8th GFMD Summit Meeting will be structured around three Roundtables:
- Roundtable 1: Human mobility and the well-being of migrants;
- Roundtable 2: Migration as a factor in development; and
- Roundtable 3: Enhancing international cooperation on emerging issues in migration and mobility.
Each roundtable will have two sessions, currently being organized by government-led teams with substantive support from international organizations, civil society and other non-state partners. The opening session will feature the 2015 Common Space that will gather governments and non-state partners to discuss issues of common concern. On the last day will be the special sessions on the GFMD Platform for Partnerships and the Future of the Forum.
As in the previous GFMD Summits , the Government meeting on 14-16 October will be preceded by the GFMD Civil Society Days on 12-13 October.
The Turkish Chair would like to promote the participation of high level policymakers and government officials in senior positions, who can bring to the GFMD discussions their rich experiences and knowledge of the complex and inter-linked issues of migration and development, and contribute to generating policy-oriented outcomes. States are strongly urged to send delegations with balanced representation from both migration and development practitioners.

All delegations are encouraged to do online registration. This online system facilitates the encoding of required information from delegates and will provide ease to the logistical preparations of the 8th Summit Meeting. To ensure a coordinated registration from each government or organization, an assigned username and password will be sent separately to the registered GFMD focal point(s).
If online registration is not feasible, please complete and send the registration form in English or French to registration@gfmd.org or by fax to: +4122 788 49 48. The deadline for registration will be on 5 October 2015.
A confirmation note (by note verbal) is needed to confirm the composition of delegates through the designated Diplomatic Mission of the government or organization. In view of the holiday period in August, kindly complete your registration as soon as possible.
