Agricultural skills training to address the impact of the Syrian refugee crisis in Turkey

FAO supported the vocational skills of Syrians under Temporary Protaction (SuTPs) in the food and agriculture sector to improve their access to employment opportunities. Building on assessment results showing significant shortage of skilled and semi-skilled labour in the sector in southern and south-eastern Turkey, FAO in partnership with UNHCR and the private sector carried out vocational trainings in the agriculture, food processing and livestock sectors for unemployed SuTPs and host communities.

FAO, IOM strengthen partnership to boost job creation for Kenya’s rural youth and reduce migration

Reintegration of young migrants into their countries of origin requires coordination between several organizations. In Kenya, FAO has partnered with IOM and other organizations to build the skills and knowledge of young migrants and rural residents in migration-prone areas to harness the potential of migration and economic mobility, specifically in areas of agriculture and rural development. 

The Rural Youth Mobility Project

In both Tunisia and Ethiopia, rural outmigration, especially of youth, is a reality challenging rural development and transformation, although in different ways. To respond to these challenges, the objectives of the e Rural Youth Mobility Project (RYM) project were to address the adverse drivers of migration, while at the same time enhancing the positive impact of rural outmigration of youth on food security and rural development in rural areas of origin.

Making Integration Work: Assessment and Recognition of Foreign Qualifications

The objective is to summarise in a non-technical way the main challenges and good policy practices to support the lasting integration of immigrants and their children for selected key groups and domains of integration.  Each volume presents ten lessons and examples of good practice, complemented by synthetic comparisons of the integration policy frameworks in OECD countries

OECD Skills for Jobs database:

The database provides an OECD country-level analysis of demand and supply for skills to address skill imbalances in the labour market. The OECD Skills for Jobs database is an analytical tool designed for policymakers, practitioners and the general public to understand where gaps are emerging between skill supply and demand, by providing country-level information for a wide range of skill categories, including cognitive, social and physical skills. Since its first release in 2017, the database has expanded its country coverage significantly. 

One Million by 2021

The "One Million by 2021 Initiative" was launched in April 2019 to catalyze action for youth development in Africa. The African Union Commission does this by facilitating connections between AU Member States, corporate sponsors and development partners to inspire investment in African youth. It aims to create 1 million new opportunities for Young Africans in education, employment, entrepreneurship, and engagement across the continent and in the diaspora.

SIFA - Skills Initiatives for Africa

The Skills Initiative for Africa (SIFA) is an initiative of the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Union Development Agency (AUDANEPAD) supported by the German Government and the European Union. SIFA promotes the occupational prospects of young Africans through the support of innovative skills development programmes and close cooperation with the private sector as an integral key stakeholder in the creation of jobs. The initiative consists of two components, a Finance Facility and a Technical Component.

Promotion of livelihoods for the Venezuelan population in the Dominican Republic

The National Institute of Migration of Dominican Republic carried out a study “Promotion of livelihoods for the Venezuelan population in the Dominican Republic” in coordination with ILO and UNHCR which provides a detailed analysis of the job profiles and skills of Venezuelan migrants in the country, as well as protection and regularization measures aimed at avoiding labor informality and facilitating insertion in the health, education and tourism sectors without creating competition with national workers.

Joint Labour Migration Programme (JLMP)

The Joint Programme on Labour Migration Governance for Development and Integration (better known as the Joint Labour Migration Programme or JLMP) in Africa is a long-term joint undertaking between the four organizations, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to implement the 5th Key Priority Area of the Declaration and Plan of Action on Employment, Poverty Eradication and Inclusive Development adopted by the Assembly of Heads of States and Governments (AU/Assembly/AU/20(XXIV)/Annex 3, January 2015) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in January 2015.

Building Inclusive Digital Economies for Migrants

The governments of Switzerland and Sweden, in partnership with UNCDF, are supporting the ‘Building Inclusive Digital Economies for Migrants’ programme to bring digital financial services to un- or underserved migrants, to establish digital wage payment solutions, to innovate the remittances market by driving the development of digital transfer solutions and to develop remittance-linked finance products, such as .health insurance, school and education payment plans, savings, investments and loans; pension funds and social security schemes.
