This Extended Migration Profile (2011) has been prepared in the framework of the “Building Migration Partnerships” initiative funded by the European Union’s Thematic Programme, which was implemented between January 2009 and June 2011. The overall objective of this initiative was to contribute to the implementation of the Joint Declaration agreed at the Prague Ministerial Conference "Building Migration Partnerships" (April 2009). This Extended Migration Profile has been elaborated on the basis of a template prepared by the European Commission.

Armenia

“Migration in Armenia: A Country Profile 2008” is part of a series of migration profiles produced by IOM Budapest within the “Black Sea Consultative Process on Migration Management” project, funded from IOM’s 1035 Facility. Armenia is an origin country for emigrants with over 800,000 citizens or more than one quarter of the total population abroad, mainly in the Russian Federation and to a lesser extent to other European countries and to the US. Armenian migrants look for seasonal work in Russia, permanent residence in the US, and seek refuge in Europe.

Council of Heads of Migration

Submitted by Mr. Dário Muhamudo on

The Council has been established as an effective mechanism of cooperation. In practice, Russia and partners from CIS have signed bilateral and multilateral agreements and schemes for organized recruitment of foreign labour force which guarantee migrants with rights, competitive salaries, security and other crucial issues.

Temporary Return of Qualified Nationals

Submitted by Mr. Dário Muhamudo on

The Temporary Return of Qualified Nationals (TRQN) programme enables the Diaspora of the targeted countries to contribute to the reconstruction and development of countries of origin. The objective of the programme is to contribute to the reduction of poverty and to stimulate economic development by strengthening the institutional capacities of both public and private organisations.
