Environment-migration nexus in Mali & Strengthening data related to internal and cross border displacement in the Sahel Region

The general objective of the project is to strengthen the resilience of displaced populations, migrants and communities and establish inclusive, peaceful and sustainable natural resource management in the Sahel and especially in Mali, and improve the availability of data on mixed migration in the Sahel, particularly on the environment-migration nexus and through the collection, management, analysis and dissemination of data on internal and cross-border displacement.

Coalition for Green Skills Pathways

This coalition was created by the government, private sector, UN, and NGOs in 2024 to train and connect refugees and displaced workers to green transition jobs. It focuses on long-term employment solutions for refugees in green jobs and is primarily focused on countries of first asylum. UNHCR is one of the members of the coalition, contributing by leveraging its socio-economic data about refugee populations, its livelihoods programming, and advising on necessary protection safeguards, including access to travel documents and prevention of refoulement.

The project is jointly implemented by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This project (finishing this month) contributes towards improved labour migration governance, decent work principles and standards in labour migration programmes, promotion of safe and regular labour mobility programmes, enhanced pre-departure assistance and improved reintegration support for returning labour migrants and their families.
