Transferring knowledge on climate change and circular economy from the Mexican diaspora

EUDiF supported an action in Mexico that facilitated the transfer of knowledge between Mexico and Europe with diaspora academics as catalysts to co-develop a toolkit for citizen education on climate change and circular economy. 

RGMX-UK, the main beneficiary of the action, is the UK chapter of the Mexican Talent Network, and was created in 2010 by members of the Mexican diaspora living in the UK and with close links to academia. 

PowerSouth Initiative

The PowerSouth initiative, founded by two Indian women living in Germany, aims to create a more equitable relationship between resource providers, implementers and entrepreneurs by promoting inclusion and gender justice for marginalized women to become empowered in climate action. 

PowerSouth offers professional services to instate women in management and ownership roles at local projects in countries, including India.

 

Repatriot App

RePatriot  distributes job and investment opportunities, and fosters networking through an app. 

RePatriot is a community set up as a platform for inspiration, advice and information that aims to facilitate access to opportunities for Romanians abroad.
 

Digitalisation & diaspora-engagement in Guyana

The Diaspora Unit of Guyana has recently mainstreamed diaspora engagement into national digitalization efforts, thus improving service delivery to and communication with the diaspora.

The Diaspora Unit of Guyana applied to the Capacity Development Lab to help it improve its service delivery in the short term through digital communication, whilst simultaneously preparing it to advocate for diaspora inclusion in a long-term government digital transformation.

Sudan Crisis Coordination Unit

In response to the current crisis in Sudan, the consulting and research organization Shabaka runs the Sudan Crisis Coordination Unit to facilitate the coordination of resources and efforts among various groups and networks, including diaspora organizations, humanitarian aid agencies, local civil society organizations and government agencies to ensure an efficient response to the crisis and maximize the impact of available resources. 

Switchboard Project

Shabaka's Switchboard initiative seeks to foster connections, exchange and the generation of new ideas among diverse diaspora generations and networks.

Switchboard is a pilot and innovative project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Shabaka, a values-driven, diaspora-led consulting and research organisation focused on diaspora humanitarian preparedness, and response. Switchboard is a project designed by and for the diaspora.

Diaspora Agro Business Award

Migrants and diaspora communities play a vital role in agri-food systems. Diaspora organizations support food security and rural development in their countries of origin, through investments, transfer of knowledge and skills, and contribution to employment generation in rural areas. 

The Diaspora Agro Business Award by the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), thus serves to recognize diaspora ”agripreneurs” contributing to agrifood employment opportunities in countries of origin.

 

Shaping development-oriented migration (MEG)

The Global Programme “Shaping development-oriented migration” (MEG) assists partner countries in leveraging the benefits of regular migration and engaging diaspora for sustainable development.

Working on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the MEG is active in up to 15 partner countries around the globe. It contributes towards implementing the GCM and is part of a comprehensive approach to migration and development. The MEG contributes to the following objectives:
