In the framework of the EUROMED Migration V project, trainings to sensitise journalists and media professionals about the benefits of promoting a balanced narrative on migration are organised. Public Communicatorsí Workshops are developed to highlight the central role of public communicators in informing the public debate on migration, and in shaping people's perceptions of migration.

OBJECTIVES

Israel made substantial efforts on integration with the elaboration of their Ulpan Program. 

Intensive Hebrew Language Programs for new immigrants are usually housed within Absorption Centers, and include five hours of intensive, immersive Hebrew-language instruction, five days a week, for five months.

The framework agreement settles issues which concern the regulation of the temporary employment of citizens of the two countries, in specific economic sectors to be agreed upon in each of the respective countries. The number of the people employed under the agreement depends on the available job vacancies within a yearly set quota.

The Department of Employment of Thailand has started to send workers from the agricultural sector to Israel under the Thailand-Israel Employment Cooperation (TIC) secured via an Agreement with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This scheme benefits the workers and reduces the cost for all Thai workers overseas.

In terms of area and population, Israel is quite a small country. Its national territory roughly corresponds in size to that of the US state of New Jersey and, with about seven million inhabitants, it is similarly densely populated. The amount of attention that the Middle East’s strongest economy has always attracted bears no relation to these somewhat unspectacular figures. Israel is constantly present in media and political discourse, primarily attributable to the often war-like conflict between Jews and Palestinians that has been smouldering for more than 60 years.
