Assistance to migrants in transit that wish to return home

Since 2012 the Government of the Netherlands has been co-financing the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVVR) programme of IOM. The AVRR programme aims to offer vulnerable migrants stranded in Morocco and wishing to go back home, a possibility to do it in a way that assures their dignity and personal security. The programme is composed of two phases: the return phase and the reintegration phase.

SPARK

There is little support for students and entrepreneurs in regions affected by conflict, the climate crisis or displacement. Even when education is available, it is hard, if not impossible, for motivated, talented young people to access the labour market. Spark has 25 years of experience in develops higher education and entrepreneurship for young people in conflict and post-conflict zones, allowing them to develop a cross-sector approach that opens up pathways to employment for potential entrepreneurs.

EU Immigration Portal

The EU Immigration Portal serves as a first point of entry to reliable, practical and up-to-date information on immigration issues. It provides useful basic information written in user-friendly language and gives rapid and direct access to relevant external websites for further information. In concrete terms, the portal helps potential migrants to:

- Better understand the EU admission rules and procedures;

- Identify job and study opportunities;

- Find information on the rights of non-EU citizens who are in the EU;

Diaspora Business Centre

This objective is to make diaspora investment and remittances more productive and effective and to connect western markets and emerging markets.

The Diaspora Business Centre is a one stop shop that combines business and social interests, paired with professional know-how by diaspora experts.

The Netherlands has a long history of immigration. Both refugees and economic migrants have come to the country in large numbers. Currently almost 20% of the Dutch population are immigrants or children of immigrant parents.

Municipal International Cooperation

VNG International is the international cooperation agency of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities.

It supports decentralisation processes and facilitates decentralised cooperation. It provides capacity building services to strengthen local governments, their associations, training institutes and decentralisation task forces both in developing countries and countries in transition. It builds on existing experience, with high quality services such as benchmarks, tools for tax collection and handbooks.

National Rapporteur on Trafficking in Human Beings and Sexual Violence against Children

The National Rapporteur reports on Trafficking in Human Beings and Sexual Violence against Children in the Netherlands. The Rapporteur’s main task is to report on the nature and extent of human trafficking and sexual violence against children in the Netherlands, and on the effects of the government policies pursued. The reports contain information on relevant regulations and legislation, as well as information on prevention, criminal investigations regarding human trafficking and sexual violence against children, prosecution of perpetrators and victim support.

Blue Birds Pilot Program on Circular Migration

The Netherlands’ pilot on circular migration will give about 160 migrants, all professionals with vocational training, an opportunity to gain working experience for a period of two years in Dutch companies. They are employed in regular vacancies in sectors where there are shortages in the Dutch labor market. The training will be based on a personal development plan, focusing on return. Upon return in their home countries the migrants will be assisted in finding a (better) job, starting up their own business and investing their remittances.
