Africa Regional Migration Program (ARMP)

The Africa Regional Migration Program (ARMP) focuses on enhancing the capacities of host governments and civil society to support the resilience of local communities. Its primary objective is to strengthen migration governance, promote partnerships, and enhance preparedness for crises. This program will enhance the coordination and cooperation of governments in addressing migration challenges and leveraging multiple opportunities associated with well-managed migration for both migrants and host societies. 

The Southern African Development Community Qualifications Framework (SADCQF)

A regional qualification framework, the SADCQF aims to enhance regional integration in the fields of education and training by promoting regional standards and recognition of qualifications. The SADCQF is a regional mechanism for comparability and recognition of full qualifications, credit transfer, creation of regional standards and facilitation of quality assurance (QA). It consists of a set of agreed principles, practices, procedures and standardised terminology intended to meet the five purposes of the SADCQF:

International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR)

The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) is an inter-governmental organization of the countries in the African Great Lakes Region. Its establishment was based on the recognition that political instability and conflicts in these countries have a considerable regional dimension and thus require a concerted effort in order to promote sustainable peace and development.

Among the main divisions we find one concerning humanitarian social and environmental issues and one related to gender, women and children.

SADC Guidelines on the Portability of Social Security Benefits

In 2020, the Southern African Development Community adopted the Guidelines on the Portability of Social Security Benefits, through a tripartite process to help SADC countries adopt policies and regulations so that workers in SADC countries can accumulate and access social security benefits across different countries in the region.

Participant Handbook: Training on protection assistance for vulnerable migrants in Zambia

This Handbook is a tool to accompany training on the operationalization of the ‘Guidelines: Protection Assistance for Vulnerable Migrants in Zambia’. The Handbook will be used during training of first line officials, to help them understand the needs of vulnerable migrants and to assist them in becoming conversant with international and national standards to be upheld in meeting the needs of such migrants.   

National Action Plan and National Referral Mechanism of Zambia

A. Need of awareness raising and building understanding 

Zambia has developed the Facilitator’s Manual, Participant’s Handbook, Guidelines and the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) to facilitate capacity building of first line officials to spearhead the implementation of the national action plans for migration related SDGs.  To this extent about one thousand eight hundred (1,800) Frontline officers have been trained in mixed migration.

African Postal Financial Service Initiative

The African Postal Financial Services initiative is a joint regional programme launched by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the European Commission in collaboration with the World Bank, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) – a specialized United Nations agency for the postal sector, the World Savings Banks Institute/European Savings Banks Group (WSBI/ESBG) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).

Local Integration Program for Former Refugees

Zambia has hosted refugees from the region since the 1960s. The country currently hosts over 53,000 people of concern mainly from Angola, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Somalia, with the majority residing in the two settlements (in Mayukwayukwa near Kaoma and Meheba near Solwezi) , while the rest are in urban areas or self-settled.
