In 2021, Switzerland together with The Gambia and the ICRC launched the discussion on missing migrants in the Rabat Process and in 2022 managed to insert the topic in its strategic framework, the Cadiz Action Plan. Based thereon, a Network of National Focal Points on Missing Migrants was established in 2024.

The project Support to the African Union (AU) on Labour Migration and Free Movement of the Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH cooperates with the African Union Commission (AUC) to promote the implementation of continental and regional migration policies with a focus on labour migration and free movement in Africa. This includes the Migration Policy Framework for Africa (MPFA), the African Union Free Movement of Persons Protocol (AU FMP) and the African Common Position on Migration and Development (ACPMD).

Learning Mission to Ecowas on the Implementation of Free Movement of Persons Regimes and Migration Management

With support from the SIMPI project, IGAD embarked on an inter-REC learning mission to the ECOWAS Commission to engage in a mutual dialogue on free movement, transhumance policies, and migration data. The initiative served as a platform for both regional organizations to exchange experiences, address challenges, and share best practices in facilitating cross-border mobility. The mission enabled IGAD to gain insights into ECOWASs approach while also offering perspectives from its own regional context.

The Migration Partnership Facility (MPF) is a European Union (EU)-funded initiative supporting the external dimension of EU migration policy. Launched in January 2016, the MPF supports dialogue and cooperation on migration and mobility between EU Member States and priority partner countries outside the EU.
