The Diaspora Unit of Guyana has recently mainstreamed diaspora engagement into national digitalization efforts, thus improving service delivery to and communication with the diaspora.

The Diaspora Unit of Guyana applied to the Capacity Development Lab to help it improve its service delivery in the short term through digital communication, whilst simultaneously preparing it to advocate for diaspora inclusion in a long-term government digital transformation.

GFMD 2022-2023 - GRT 3 Background Paper "Diasporas as actors of economic, social and cultural development"

The project PEM N'Zassa, which is deeply rooted in the two countries in which it is being implemented, Côte d'Ivoire and Belgium, aims to support the entrepreneurial ecosystems in each country. The project proposes a circular mobility model for 120 Ivorian entrepreneurs and SME employees who have developed an innovative entrepreneurial project, and for whom mobility to Belgium represents an opportunity to create value.

The PEM's action integrates and complements the missions of the Belgian and Ivorian economic agencies, as well as the action of other relevant players such as diaspora associations. More generally, this approach aims to contribute to dialogue on the governance of migration. It relies on the collaboration of the relevant institutions in both countries.

This project, through the creation of skills partnerships of organisations/institutions supporting businesses, will therefore aim to support the process of strengthening professional mobility pathways (circular, temporary and/or other) for the benefit of Ivorian and Belgian players. 
Thanks to its pilot dimension, the PEM's mission is to strengthen the players linked to it by testing win-win and sustainable methodologies and partnerships, particularly in four pre-identified areas:
1. Agri-food ;
2. Digital/Numeric ;
3. Green economy ;
4. Cultural and creative industries.

14th GFMD Summit - GRT4 Labour migration

In response to the current crisis in Sudan, the consulting and research organization Shabaka runs the Sudan Crisis Coordination Unit to facilitate the coordination of resources and efforts among various groups and networks, including diaspora organizations, humanitarian aid agencies, local civil society organizations and government agencies to ensure an efficient response to the crisis and maximize the impact of available resources.

This circular mobility scheme makes knowledge and practical exchange possible between Belgian and Senegalese companies. With a view to building the capacities of Senegalese entrepreneurs and connecting them to their Belgian peers, the project aims to offer short-term migration opportunities for business purposes while contributing to the construction of a sustainable economic partnership between the two countries. Also, by promoting a safe environment for institutional dialogue around professional mobility between Senegal and Belgium, the project seeks to strengthen trust between public and private actors in order to make entrepreneurial mobility a safe channel for temporary migration.

14th GFMD Summit - GRT4 Labour migration

EUDiF supported an action in Mexico that facilitated the transfer of knowledge between Mexico and Europe with diaspora academics as catalysts to co-develop a toolkit for citizen education on climate change and circular economy. 

RGMX-UK, the main beneficiary of the action, is the UK chapter of the Mexican Talent Network, and was created in 2010 by members of the Mexican diaspora living in the UK and with close links to academia. 

In line with its global priorities, RGMX-UK wants to continue contributing to the SDGs by engaging the academic diaspora in concrete actions for Mexico’s development. To do so, they require capacity development to systematise diaspora knowledge transfer to bolster the development work of civil society organisations in Mexico.

Shabaka's Switchboard initiative seeks to foster connections, exchange and the generation of new ideas among diverse diaspora generations and networks.

Switchboard is a pilot and innovative project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Shabaka, a values-driven, diaspora-led consulting and research organisation focused on diaspora humanitarian preparedness, and response. Switchboard is a project designed by and for the diaspora.

Using technology, it aims to facilitate connections among different generations and networks of diaspora actors to encourage knowledge exchange between communities and generations and produce new ideas related to humanitarian action.

This project intended to experiment and test the Global Skills Partnership (GSP) model between Morocco and Belgium, and thereby facilitate the cooperation between the two countries in the management of regular migration. By developing the professional skills of young graduates in Morocco in response to labour market needs in the ICT sector in both Belgium and Morocco, PALIM aimed to provide job opportunities to young Moroccans, both for those interested in gaining qualified work experience in their country and in Belgium, in a partnership that would offer mutually beneficial outcomes for both countries.

This project was implemented by Enabel, the Belgian development agency, in cooperation with public and private actors in Morocco and Belgium.

GFMD 2020 - RT 2 Background Paper "Skilling Migrants for Employment"

Migrants and diaspora communities play a vital role in agri-food systems. Diaspora organizations support food security and rural development in their countries of origin, through investments, transfer of knowledge and skills, and contribution to employment generation in rural areas. 

The Diaspora Agro Business Award by the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), thus serves to recognize diaspora ”agripreneurs” contributing to agrifood employment opportunities in countries of origin.
